Dear friends,
We must study harder,publish more,teach more,give more lecture if we have any hope of academic salvation in the eyes of the organisers of the only national conference by EM for EM and of EM,EMCON.We are not doing enough.That is at least what seems to be the case.
Only 25% of the speakers in our conference are from EM,blessed are they,because,the rest are not considered worthy,worthy of their own salt,not worthy enough to speak in the same podium from where the high and mighty of other specialties will teach us,emergency physicians,the recent advances in EM!!!
This can only happen because of our lack of self-respect.We do not ourselves regard ourselves as a specialty worthy of intellectual and academic(perhaps intelligent!!) concourse with our colleagues from other specialties.
We speak without prejudice to other specialties.In an academic conference of EM it is sensible to invite other specialties to learn and attempt to underst and ,may be even debate their views.But 75% non-EM??!!We must say that is taking it a bit too far.How many emergency physicians speak in APICON?CSI?any conference by any specialties?? The answer is;few,if not none.It is acceptable,not disrespectful because those are not forum for EM.But Mr, president,EMCON 2011,what you are doing is disrespectful because it shouts to the world that we regard ourselves as academically incompetent,intellectually inferior errand boys,not specialists practising an independent specialty.
Dear Mr president,EMCON2011,we sincerely believe this is the case,because the other prospects are even more frightening because nepotism,favoritism and region-centric thoughts can not and should not be present in any academic environment.It demeans the specialty,not just the conference.
So,friends let us pledge to study more,publish more if we have any hope of academic salvation
P.S. : yet there is hope,the list is tentative,but we wonder
1. Is it not too late for a tentative list?
2.If a new speaker list is published will we throw the previous non-EM speakers out or will we cram further EM speakers in this already crammed space??????????????

one last word - congratulations to Dr Dasgupta and team on their resignation in protest,those who perpetrate a crime and those who tolerate it silently are equaly guilty.

I feel we all should protest to this pathetic excuse which serves only to demean our specialty further and adds insult to injury.

I think time to finalize the SS is absolutely depends on the Organizers.
If ur upset with London weather stop checking speaker list.
The main reason of EM not going forward as expected becos of your "Trojan concept".
Why dont they register in a bulk and solve the fund issue.
RAISE URSELF TO THE CAPACITY DO SOMETHING FIRST THEN RAISE UR VOICE FOR EM!!

Your whole letter reeks of an Orwellian attitude.As regards the contents of your letter 2 things come clear and loud.1.you are the boss and the boss is always right and is never to be contradicted or questioned and 2. EMCON SS is a piece of your ancestral property.
Let me warn you of 2 things,neither Kolkata nor EM are your up for sale.If you expect emergency physicians to participate from all over India as guests please be humble and democratic first.

We do little because stalwarts of EM in Kolkata allow people from EM to do only little things,the bigger things are kept for big boys of other specialty by their order.

All I see is the biggest disgrace being brought to the specialty by your collective management. Stop it before it is too late and becomes a black blot in history of emergency medicine.
I am worried that the delegates will be missing in this conference, I have surely cancelled my visit now, and the whole purpose of this academic exercise will turn out to be a big laughing stock.
Hope you have wisdom and vision to do corrections in time and not responding back in personal and offensive language to this request of mine.
