RESOLUTION 2012: SWSWSWSW

2011, was the year of challenge for EM in India. On one hand we saw the struggle of MD EM friends fighting for their recognition to MCI, the unknown charter of the MEM grads into the sea of Corporate world striving for due respect and on the other hand the demand of Indian EM grads in UK and Middle East and joy of Indian EM physicians earning respect across the globe.

2012, as I see is the year to build our trust and respect to the people who we save, who we love and who we support day in and day out. All we need to do this year is to develop a strong resilience in ourselves. According to Andrew Shatte, the vice president of Adaptive Learning Systems, resilience involves seven factors

1. Realistic optimism ( Which is born of an accurate identification of causes )
2. Causal analysis
3. Self efficacy ( Having a conviction that You will be able to solve the problems )
4. Empathy
5. Emotion Regulation
6. Impulse Control
7. Reaching out ( The ability to enhance the positive aspect of life )
( Adapted from The Resilience Factor: Seven essential skills for overcoming life’s inevitable obstacles. Karen Reivich and Andrew Shatte )

Taking clue from all these MY 2012 resolution is SWSWSWSW which stands for “some will, some won’t; so what-someone’s waiting.” Some people are going to say yes and some are going to say no to Emergency Medicine. So what! Out there somewhere, someone is waiting for you and your ideas.

Dear Sir,
This reminds of few very beautiful linew by Robert Frost..

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."
