NEW APPOINTMENT: Co Residency Director – MEM Program




Dr Punidha Kaliaperumal

Dr Punidha Kaliaperumal graduated from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, India, affiliated to the Delhi University. She further went onto do her Masters in Emergency Medicine (MEM) from Max Healthcare in affiliation with The Ronald Reagan Institute of Emergency Medicine, George Washington University, USA. In the interim period between her graduation and post graduation, she indulged in her passion for research by working as a Research Associate at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Chicago, USA.

Dr Kaliaperumal is currently working as a faculty for the Masters in Emergency Medicine (MEM) program, which she graduated from. She has a couple of enthusiastic residents training under her in the Masters Program, whom she mentors and guides in their research and thesis. She is also a faculty for the Emergency and Trauma Care Training course run by Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi.

She is a BLS, ACLS and PALS instructor and has been serving as a faculty for the International Training center of AHA for the past five years. She is also an FCCS provider, certified by the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr Kaliaperumal has also done a certified course in Emergency Ultrasonography from George Washington University.

She has authored and co-authored several publications and research papers in national and international journals. Her areas of interests include Disaster Medicine, Acute Trauma Care and Emergency Ultrasonography. She has been an active participant in organizing mass casualty disaster drills in collaboration with the Delhi Metro and the Haryana Government. Recently, she has also been a part of a hospital based CBRNe Disaster Training and Mock Drill conducted by Americares India Ltd.

She is also a recipient of the ISTAAC (Indian Society of Trauma and Acute Care) Bursary award at the TRAUMA 2011 conference held at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for her outstanding work to develop a New Trauma Score named the ‘NEW DELHI TRAUMA SCORE’.

Dr Kaliaperumal is one of the founder members of the Delhi Chapter of SEMI (Society for Emergency Medicine in India). She was actively involved as the Secretary of the scientific committee of EMCON 2012, the 14th annual conference of SEMI-India, held in New Delhi, in the month of November 2012.

Apart from her academic endeavors she has varied extra-curricular interests ranging from swimming and dancing to different forms of adventure sports like bungee jumping and scuba diving. Lately, she has been involved in tracking wildlife like snow leopards and tigers.
