GWU LAUNCHES FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IN INDIA
Medical Faculty Associates of GWU is launching EM Faculty Development Program to train Emergency Medicine physicians who are practicing and teaching in academic institutions which are providing training programs in Emergency Medicine. This program will train these EM physicians to become academic faculty in Emergency Medicine. This will currently be offered at the following sites from July 2012
1. Max Healthcare, New Delhi
2. Peerless Hospital, Kolkata, West Bengal
3. Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, Calicut, Kerala
Faculty Development Program Details
This program is a one-year program comprised of a minimum of 10 months training at their host institution with an optional 2 months training in the United States. The optional training program in the States will be tailored to the individual faculty member’s training needs and will further establish the framework for ongoing development as faculty in emergency medicine.
During this one year Faculty Development Program, faculty members must:
1. Be very familiar with all components of the core curriculum materials in emergency medicine, and actively contribute as academic faculty to their host institutions training program through didactic sessions, evaluations, bedside teaching, and mentorship.
2. Focus on a select important key area of interest which will allow the faculty member to acquire key administrative and focused expertise in a specific area of emergency medicine to further advance their academic department and their own professional development. Such areas may include: clinical director of operations, residency assistant director, director of student preceptor program, EM research, pre hospital / EMS /disaster, EM Education, injury prevention and mitigation, health policy, informatics, toxicology, ultrasound, administration, quality assurance, or simulation.
3. Complete specialized mentoring in adult medical education focusing on clinical (bedside) teaching, didactic teaching, providing feedback, and evaluating trainees effectively.
4. Conduct both their own research project(s) and provide mentorship and oversight to
Residents as they are conducting their required research projects/theses.
